Feminine & Dainty Newborn Girl Photography | Houston Baby Photos

Houston Newborn Photographer, Sarah Borchgrevink, offers stunning newborn girl photography that is soft, dainty, and feminine.

Hi, friends! Welcome! I'm thrilled you're here to see one of the latest newborn baby girl's I've had in my Houston Newborn Photo Studio. When it comes to working with fresh new babies, their sessions take place in the first 18 days, as this is when babies are most curly and able to be molded into precious images. However, I also offer a plethora of gorgeous newborn wrapping, as this is a cornerstone to all of my baby portraiture.

When booking, this sweet baby girl's mom requested the session to be soft, neutral, and dainty. After all, what's more lovely than a brand new baby girl? With this inspiration in mind, I pulled many great props from my stash. For instance, for her first set up, I pulled an adorable organic wrap, petite tieback to adorn her little forehead, and a bowl to showcase how new and curly she is.

After her bowl set up, we moved to a gorgeous cream backdrop. This style of wrapping is one of my favorites because it keeps baby happy, safe, and they are able to be "molded" into sweet poses with their hands, especially. It's important baby looks serene and at peace.

For her flokati set up, I really focused on a vintage tie back, seen below, and a classic bonnet. The flokati rug is tan, so it's about as neutral as you can get! While I really enjoy using color, neutrals can be very soothing and will look wonderful with many styles of decor in your home. After all, the photos are meant to be displayed along your walls and albums should line your shelves. You'll never regret having a newborn session.

I like to use this cradle with both newborn girls and boys, however, the styling can differ depending on the gender. Nevertheless, this lovely sage bonnet and wrap are perfect for this sweet baby girl. You see, green is fantastic because it can be both bold or soft, depending on your preferences. I personally like this sage because it's a little bit muted, which adds to the vintage vibe I like to encompass. This cradle was a great find in my local antique shop! That's where I find most of my floor props - just hunting and looking for treasures, ha!

After the cradle, I pulled a rustic wooden bucket and a grey wrap that also has hints of lavendar. Like green, grey is one of those colors that can be masculine or feminine, depending on the hue. For instance, this one is soft and has more of a heather tone to it, so it's perfect for a little lady. At 9 days fresh and new, baby girls are truly just a dream!

After my floor props, we move to back to bean bag to do the adorable "tucked in" shot and the tootsie wrap. The tucked in shot is a fun way to bring in another color you've seen earlier in the session; this bonnet is perfect because it's the muted sage but also is not distracting. I like the hats to make baby's cheeks look plump and showcase their adorable newborn characteristics, such as full lips or their button nose. Photographing newborns is a joy and I really look forward to each and every session.

This blue wrap, seen further down, was really fun to use because it's nice to pull inspiration from colors not typically associated with a particular gender. For instance, while blue is often thought of as a "boy" color, I do think it looks lovely and soft on a little girl, especially when paired with a tieback. It almost reminds me of Cinderella and her blue gown at the ball, oh gosh! As a little girl, she was my favorite Disney princess, however, my own kiddos are partial to Jasmine now, lol!

Newborn Session Flow | Keeping Baby Content during Your Portraits

Specializing in the art of of newborn photography for Houston babies, Sarah Borchgrevink offers beautiful collections that practice newborn safety.

The Importance of Studio session flow

The session flow is one of the most important parts of your newborn session. Session flow is how we move from set up to set up. During our time together, we will be accomplishing a lot! Even my mini session, with is the entry level newborn collection, is full of variety. By using a flow that is successful, I am able to move effortlessly through the set ups, keep baby safe, calm and happy. I also am able to provide you with gorgeous images of your precious baby!

Newborn sessions typically begin at 11 AM and last around 1-2 hours, depending on your session type. My wrapped minis are usually done in less than an hour while a full session is closer to two.

Sometimes moms tell me they're nervous before the session. They worry baby may be fussy or will not sleep. Don't worry: you're given a prep guide full of great information. I am also formally trained in the custom art of posed newborn photography. I have taken workshops on safety, handling, wrapping, posing, lighting and also post processing of your images. I am extremely comfortable working with new babies and pride myself on patience, safety, and ensuring everyone has a great experience! I am excited to work with you!

White Noise Machine

Once you enter my studio and become seated, I turn on a white noise machine. The white noise mimics the noise baby hears when inside the womb. The perks of the white noise are that it settles baby, it reminds her of a calm place, and also helps her stay asleep as we move through set ups. We want her to be in a deep sleep so she does not startle or jolt suddenly. Newborn safety is of the utmost importance during your session. White noise is the backbone to keeping her content.

Full, Sleepy Baby

Upon arriving to my studio, you'll be seated and we'll begin feeding baby in whichever manner you're most comfortable doing. Some moms formula feed, some pump, and some nurse. If you're comfortable pumping, this is usually the 'easist' way to get the session started, but there's no pressure. I have three little girls myself, and am pregnant with a boy (ha!) so I am well versed in doing what's best for your family. You've also been given a newborn prep guide, so before coming to my studio you know what's going to happen. Once baby is fed, burped, and her diaper is changed so she's clean, we start the session.

A Warm Environment

My studio is kept at around 80 degrees. When you first arrive, I have the air on 77 degrees since family photos take first. This temperature is what keeps baby happy and calm. When she's growing in the womb, she's used to your body temperature, which is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. The more your studio emulated a womb-like environment, the better baby does. She will be molded into super curly, squishy poses. After family photos take place, however, feel free to put on a pair of yoga pants and put your hair up into a messy bun - I know it's warm but the photos are well worth it! Also: bring a snack, book, or just hang out. You're welcome to ask any questions and of course, I am excited to chat with you!

Cozy, Secure Wrapping

As soon as you feed and burp baby (I can also help you with this, too!) I'll begin wrapping baby for family photos. I always implement three unique styles of adorable newborn session wrapping. The wrapping immediately gets baby into a deep sleep and makes her easier for you to hold. She also looks like a perfect package!

Baby is now the star

After family photos take place, baby is the focus. I will move through many poses and set ups, so be prepared to see how stunning your little one is! For instance, we go from family into a bean bag set up seen here:

Payment Plans | Professional Newborn Photography Can Be Affordable

Affordable Payment Plan Options with Houston Newborn Photographer Sarah Borchgrevink

When photographing a new baby in my studio, I often spend around an hour setting up for your sessions. I pull many beautiful items that are typically handcrafted and are from other local businesses such as wraps, tiebacks, textiles, and antique shops such as buckets, bowls, and all the props.

I also spend 1-2 hours photographing your sweet cherub and then around 3 hours retouching the images before sending you the gallery. Afterward, the images are yours for a lifetime. They'll be loved, treasured, and displayed for years to come. You'll see them throughout their childhood, at their wedding, and passed down as a family heirloom. You're not taking these images just for yourself: but for your children.

What You're Investing In: Art & Talent

As a full-time small business owner, there are expenses professional photographers have to upkeep. For instance, just a few of monthly expenses your photographer is responsible for is a 30 percent income tax, the rent or mortgage for our business space, health insurance, utilities, business insurance, vehicle usage, supplies, professional website maintenance, subscriptions to editing software, meals, training and mentoring, our bookkeeping or CPA services, attorney on retainer, gas and mileage, etc. The list is never-ending. This why professional portrait artists charge the rates we charge: because in order to run a successful business we have to be responsible owners. It's all part of our cost of doing business. I say this in complete transparency so clients see there is a reason behind the rates you see listed on a pricing or investment guide.

Also, as a Houston Newborn Photographer, I've invested in my own newborn photography education through safety workshops, newborn mentoring, and classes on lighting, equipment, the styling of your sessions and post-processing of images. I use top of the line camera equipment as well as a custom-built super PC so your sessions are edited efficiently. I am still mentoring and will continue to do so because being stagnant is not an option.

Why Flexible Payment Plans Are An Option To All my Clients

A few days ago, on Facebook, a close friend told me the following, " I really wish I had budgeted and planned ahead so I could do newborn sessions for my daughter! Worth every penny but sometimes pennies are hard to come by." Another friend also relayed, " I am so sad that we couldn't afford newborn photos." Hearing this made me feel like I had done my friends a disservice. While they did not inquire into my professional newborn photography sessions, they also did not know that payment plans are always an option with my studio. Professional newborn photography is an investment, one of which you'll never regret making, however, I also understand sometimes parents have many other expenses during their pregnancy. Photography is a luxury.

With my friends explaining this to me, I feel compelled to write a post explaining that I offer payment plans year around to everyone. Don't be afraid to ask. You should not miss out on these precious, fleeting images. Newborn sessions take place in the first 14 days of life so this allows you to capture this brand new milestone with affordable options.

How My Payment Plans Work

If a payment plan is a way you'd like to book, let's get this process started! I have a few options for you to select from. You may select 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. There is a $100 non-refundable retainer to secure the payment plan. The rest of your balance is broken up into your selected time length. Many parents are excited to still be able to have the session with smaller upfront investment. Then, you have the time needed to pay for your session.

How Are Payment Plans Setup

Clients have two options for setting up a payment plan. They may pay through credit or debit cards of their choice. You may also use personal checks. You are invoiced according to your payment plan preference (1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months). There is no interest so you will not incur any additional charges other than your flat rate listed on the pricing guide.

When you receive your images or products

Ten business days after your final payment has been made, you will receive an online digital gallery filled with your perfected and retouched high-resolution digital files. There will also be instructions on how to order the heirloom prints that come in your collection. The digital files are yours to download, share, print, enjoy, etc. You may treasure them forever! While I do not release any final copies without payment in full, your photos are backed up onto two different hard drives as well as a cloud subscription so they stay safe while they wait to be retouched.

Option to pay off your payment plan earlier

Many times, the clients I have done payment plans to have chosen to pay their session off earlier than expected. While there is no rush to do so, this is an option if you choose to complete your final installment at an earlier date. Parents are excited to receive the images and often cannot wait to have the gallery.
