Fun Outdoor Summer Watermelon Birthday Session in Houston TX

Happy birthday to cutie pie Collyns! Her outdoor & natural Light Children's Session features an adorable watermelon smash in Houston Texas.

Greetings, folks! Howdy to you! Welcome to my blog. If this is your first time visiting, you're in for a treat since I'm showing you a super adorable toddler today; however, if you've been here before you may notice I mostly feature newborn sessions. Nonetheless, many of these sweet babies happen to be baby plan clients, too, so at some point they do turn one or hit another milestone, such as 6 months, so here and there you'll see a post showing little ones, too.

Happy birthday to one of my long time clients! I first met this beautiful baby girl at her newborn session and it's already been a year! Her mama contacted me for one year portraits in a natural, outdoor setting. Since C's favorite food is watermelon, what better way to celebrate the big O-N-E than a sunrise session featuring vintage inspired images showing a precious baby eating watermelon, huh? Ha! 

Here are a few of my favorites from her watermelon themed first birthday shoot!

When we arrived, there was plenty of Texas heat and humudity to go around, but baby girl was all smiles. Such a pretty little love - her pink headband is too cute on her! We used a rocking horse from her nursery, too. The quilt is mine, but it is fun when clients bring special heirloom pieces from home. They add a special touch to your session. 

After the rocking horse, we did a variety of sets up from the actual watermelon smash in my antique cream high chair to a bubble bath where baby can splash and play. After these, we let her have fun and sit on a quilt just enjoying her yummy fruit.

Caroline Lucy's Plum & Mauve Session | Houston Newborn & Family Session

Fresh, Pure and Timeless Newborn Baby + Family Photography near Jersey Village. Welcome Baby Girl at 9 days new.

Good morning, everyone! Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog. I hope you're gearing up for an exciting weekend as today is Thursday. I have a newborn coming in this morning so I am pretty excited about that since they're my specialty; however, before baby arrives at my studio I am looking forward to sharing one of the latest in studio newborn + family portraiture sessions I had the honor of documenting.

This adorable family visited my all white, organic studio, located in Houston, when baby was just around 8 days old. Her name is Caroline and she weighs 7 pounds. She has beautiful, full lips and the cutest little profile ever. Sweet little feet, button nose, and long fingers - truly a beauty! 

Her parents chose my "petite" collection which is a great newborn option because this session features a variety of custom set ups such as family images, baby with Mom, baby with Dad, (2) floor props, and (2) bean bag drops. I also do macro images, too, which are the detailed shots of your baby's features such as their fingernails, eyelashes, lips, etc. I like doing these because you spent 9 months dreaming of their face and imagining holding baby in your arms. A newborn portraiture collection is the perfect way celebrate this incredibly special time in your life. 

For family and parent images, I like the posing to be very laid back and connected; while it's nice to have a few of everyone looking "perfectly" at the camera, as a Houston mama to three little girls, I can tell you some of my most treasured images of my children are lifestyle in nature. This is where you naturally interact with little one. While I do give plenty of direction, I like to encourage you and your spouse to be who you are. Smile, laugh, play - talk about your favorite aspects of baby. Sometimes I also ask the parents to think about the first time they saw baby's heart beat at their doctor's appointment. This truly evokes a sense of wonder and genuine, authentic emotion.

After the family portion of your newborn session, we move onto baby's individual shots. I always begin with wrapped set ups since this makes baby feel very safe, secure and happy. They adore being wrapped because this emulates the environemnt of the womb; they spent 9 months growing in 98.6 degrees, so my studio is also kept at a cozy 80 degrees to ensure baby is comfortable. I also play white noise so that baby sleeps soundly. This environemtn fosters the perfect newborn session because baby's happiness is kept forefreont at all times. 

Her macro images of profile and lips are super cute! And this adorable knitted hat was given to me by one of my favorite vendors who makes most of my props. The plum set up truly makes baby skin's glow and she had a stunning tone to her. I also typically use darker, rich and vibrant color schemes since these look best against babies. I am not a fan of pastels since baby blends into the softer or muted neutrals. 

For Caroline's floor props, I selected an antique, rustic bucket and also a vintage wooden cradle. These are some of my favorite props because they look awesome with a boy or girl; depending on how you style baby, you're sure to receive a variety of looks with simplistic props. Moreover, vintage inspired props reflect a timeless atmosphere and you're able to ensure the photos will forever look classic. I am a huge fan of simplistic images because they're fresh, pure and genuine; they allow your baby to shine. By removing many distracting props, your baby will forever be preserved and the star of the photos. I provide all props and styling to ensure the photos reflect my tastes and branding. Consistency is key for me.

Pregnancy Announcement & Gender Reveal | Sharing Joy With You

The Borchgrevink Family is having another baby this December! Bring on all things boy!

Good morning, friends, and happy Monday! Today on the blog things are going to get a little personal. You see, the hubby and I decided we'd like to try for *one* more baby, as we already have three sassy little girls we like to call the Tiny Tribe of Wild Women. As parents, we cannot express our joy in raising our little clan of red headed gals, and felt like if we were going to have a fourth baby, now is the time. We would like the little ones to be close in age and grow up together, as friends. 

As some of you know, Kevin, my spouse, is a stay at home Dad to our kiddos and helps me with the business side of my photography. I shoot full time, for a living, and this blog post will cover some details about sessions for the rest of the year, maternity leave, and what type of work I'll be taking on. Because I photograph family/newborns for a living, I am sharing details with you.

The Calendar for 2017

With my last three pregnancies, I photographed clients until I was 42 weeks pregnant, had a baby, and then immediately went back to work a few days after coming home from the hospital. While I do bounce back super quickly and am extremely blessed to have easy pregnancies, I have decided to close my family calendar for the rest of the year. If you're already on the calendar for any family/maternity/child session between August and November, please know your session is still good to go. I will, however, not be taking fall/winter family sessions this year so I may enjoy my last pregnancy and not have 60 clients per month. It's really hard to balance working life, family life, social obligations and be present as a wife and mother when you're shooting 2-3 sessions/day for several months straight. 

I'll continue taking newborns, however, since they're in studio and what I currently specialize in. I'll be taking newborns until the last week of November. This means, I will not be taking December due dates, but will be taking January due dates. After this, I'll be on maternity leave for December and part of January. 

BABY PLAN MEMBERSHIPS

If you're currently a baby plan client, have no fear. I will be finishing out your plans and if your baby plan milestone session (such as 6 or 12 months) takes place in December, when I happen to be on maternity leave, you can either do your session in November or later in January. My e-mail is always open with any concerns or questions you may have.  I absolutely never want you to feel like your session is not important to me. Milestone sessions are flexible since it's more of a "sitter" session meaning your session takes place when baby is sitting up, but not yet walking. This can be anytime from 6-8 months, as most babies don't walk until closer to 10-12 months. 

Gender Reveal & Pregnancy Announcement

Kevin and I are definitely on the more "laid back" side of things. We have three young children and our lives are controlled chaos at best; we've learned things will never be picture perfect or inspired by Pintrest because that's not who we are. This in mind, we decided to do an easy announcement in which we allowed our kiddos to have fun and play in my studio. We turned on their favorite Taylor Swift music, blew up some balloons and also dressed them in blue shirts, since blue is typically associated with all things boy. My mother in law was super kind to help me put everything together since it was a heavy work week for me.
